EMDR & Trauma
Working through EMDR with me will feel more structured, and more felt in the body and emotions, than typical talk therapy.
When our minds are hurting because of abuse, trauma or grief, they naturally want to fix themselves. EMDR can help you intentionally stimulate the memory networks in your brain to “turn down the volume” of really negative memory networks and strengthen more adaptive, healthy networks. I specialize in working with clients with complex trauma, often stemming from childhood relational trauma and abuse. I also work with first responders, healthcare professionals, and law enforcement officers who have experienced trauma on the job.
I have been EMDR Certified by EMDRIA since 2021. The EMDR Certification is an advanced credential beyond EMDR training, and indicates the extensive amount of experience I have in the protocols.
EMDR Intensives
EMDR Intensives are like a "fast pass" toward your healing. Instead of the weekly sessions, we would do EMDR sessions in 3 hour blocks over the course of a week or less. Intensives are an excellent alternative to the weekly therapy model for those who can't make space for a weekly therapy appointment, have alternative work schedules, are seeking relief quickly, or simply prefer to do a deep dive. Religious and Spiritual Trauma
I support clients going through spiritual deconstruction, faith changes, and loss of faith. I am most familiar with Christianity (including evangelicalism and Catholicism), The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, and Jehovah's Witnesses, but open to any and all faith changes. I really love working through religious trauma topics with individuals in the LGBTQ+ community. Religious trauma and faith deconstruction is a very nuanced, complex, and personal topic. I understand the importance of working with a therapist in this area who truly gets it.
Couples
When I was a new therapist, I never thought I'd enjoy working with couples. So I just didn't, for a long time! But the more I worked with individuals who had relational trauma, the more I felt like I was working with my hands tied behind my back. If only their partner was here too, we could get so much more done! So... I'm happy to be wrong about that. I bring a straightforward, collaborative, and direct approach to couples' work. I primarily integrate principles of EFT and RLT (Relational Life Therapy), and am training in RLT approaches to deepen my skills.
Professional Burnout
Being a helping professional can be really, really hard. Burnout was the one word that best describes my early years as a therapist. Huge caseloads, high needs, tons of trauma, mountains of paperwork, poor working conditions, terrible pay, odd hours, frequent fear of being assaulted… yeah. If you’re there now, I want to support you. You don’t have to worry about feeling invalidated or like your therapist doesn’t get it.
Individual Therapy
I work with adults experiencing depression and other mood disorders, life transitions, grief, and stress. I am experienced with clients who have ADHD as well.
